Claire Henderson Davis is a dance artist, writer and organisational development consultant. After training in Creative Arts in Montréal, where she is originally from, she completed a doctorate in Theology at the University of Edinburgh in 1999. She is concerned, both in her art and writing, with how telling our stories individually and collectively can be a form of public work, shaping our lives and the society in which we live. Claire has extensive experience both performing and making work. Her pieces include Eucharist, staged at the St Bride’s Centre, Edinburgh, 2000; Teach to Your Daughters a Lament, exhibited at The Elephant House, Edinburgh, and at St Martin-in-the Fields, Trafalgar Square, 2002; and, And You Held Me at St George’s, Tufnell Park, 2003 (review). In 2002 she performed in Chair/Pillow by Yvonne Rainer with Mikhail Baryshnikov and the White Oak Dance Project, as part of Past/Forward at the Edinburgh International Festival. In 2004-2005, she made A Walk Through Town - Divine Encounters in Soho, the fruit of a yearlong residency in the Soho community, performed at Soho Theatre, February 2005, by a mix of professional artists and community participants (review). The significance of this work has been recognised by Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury (comment). Claire also provides bespoke consultancy services. |
